Health Economic Benefit Framework and Mode shift to micromobility

Jerry Khoo, Beca

Thursday 18 November, 12.30 - 1.00pm

This presentation combines the two completed research reports for Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. The health benefit framework was carried out with the primary aim to update the economic health values adopted in NZ’s project economic evaluation. With the emergence of electric assisted modes such as electric bicycles and electric scooters, a review of the health benefit framework was carried out to assess if health benefits can also be attributed to any of these emerging modes. The health benefit framework reviewed the demand estimation used for the active modes - walking and cycling, and for the electric assisted active modes such as electric bicycles and electric scooters. The mode shift to micromobility research was carried out to understand the micromobility modes, models for use (e.g. shared models, mobility as a service, private ownership), level of mode shift and the impacts of micromobility on health and safety, accessibility, socio-economic equity and the environment.
